Jaiku is an activity stream and micro-blogging service that works from the Web and mobile phones.
Jaiku, Ltd. was founded in February, 2006 by Jyri Engeström and Petteri Koponen from Finland. The service was released on the Web in July 2006. Jaiku was based in Helsinki before it got acquired by Google in October 2007.
The terms of the acquisition are not disclosed.
Twitter is the closest US based competitor that has become the most popular micro-blogging service reaching mainstream in the 2008 US presidential elections.
